About Me

"A midwife should have a lady's hands, a hawk's eyes and a lion's heart"-----Aristotle

I definitely think the above quote applies to doulas as well. Birthing is a natural, normal body process, but it's also an art! A combination of the mother, the labor assistants, the baby and the midwife or doctor.

My name is Crystal-Lyn Clark and I am a wife, mother, college student and now a doula student. I am attending college to get my RN. From there I will be attending UNH for my BSN and then to Frontier School of Midwifery for my masters in nursing and my certification in nurse midwifery.

I realized pregnancy and childbirth were my passion when I was about 15 years old, when I witnessed a calf being born. The mother cow was calm, steady and ready and she birthed that calf all by herself, no interventions. I stood near her, encouraging her with "You're doing great Momma, another couple pushes...". She looked at me while I watched her, and it was just amazing to witness. If I knew the owners of that farm better, I would have jumped behind that fence and started being a cow midwife!

When I was 17, I helped my brother's cat through her labor and delivery of her 5 kittens. I saw each one born, helped each get the goop off their face, and even snipped a few cords while Momma pushed the rest out. It was an amazing sight!

When I was pregnant with my daughter, it fascinated me. Everything I could learn from the doctor in our short visits, I did. I had a very less than satisfying birth with Lilly that led to very severe Postpartum Depression and a feeling of "I never want to do that again." I started my doula reading and researching after this, determined to give mother's a better experience with their birth, especially in hospitals.

I attended Aviva Institute's 6 week online doula class and can now start working towards my births for certification!
